GN 2 Phase Disc Separator Used for Seaweed Slurry Separation in Southeast Asia
GN Separation has recently supplied a 2 Phase Disc Stack Separator for a seaweed slurry separation project in Southeast Asia, providing an efficient solution for the clarification and fine solid-liquid separation of seaweed slurry.

For this Southeast Asian project, the GN 2 Phase Disc Separator is used for the fine clarification of seaweed slurry. The equipment is designed to separate fine solid particles from the liquid phase and continuously discharge clarified liquid. With its high-speed rotating bowl and disc stack design, the separator provides a much higher centrifugal force than conventional decanter centrifuges, making it particularly suitable for applications requiring high liquid clarification.
The centrifugal force of GN’s 2 Phase Disc Separator can reach up to 12,000 G, while a conventional decanter centrifuge typically operates at around 3,000 G. The higher G-force and high rotational speed enable the disc separator to capture fine suspended particles effectively and produce highly clarified liquid.
At the same time, the characteristics of the feed material are important when selecting a disc stack separator. Since a 2 Phase Disc Separator is mainly designed for fine particle separation, the feed should generally have a relatively low solids concentration and should not contain large particles. In typical applications, the solid content is preferably around 1% and generally should be below 3%.

For feed materials with higher solids content or larger particles, pretreatment may be required. Depending on the specific application, a decanter centrifuge or other separation equipment can be used as the first-stage treatment to remove larger particles and reduce the solids loading. The 2 Phase Disc Separator can then be applied as a second-stage clarification unit to achieve a higher level of liquid clarification.
This combination of separation technologies allows the treatment process to be configured according to the characteristics of the feed material and the required separation performance. For seaweed slurry applications, the appropriate equipment selection can help improve the quality of the clarified liquid while maintaining a stable downstream process.
GN’s 2 Phase Disc Stack Separators are also used in a wide range of industries, including vegetable oil clarification, biological and pharmaceutical processing, dairy and beverage production, biofuel processing, and marine oil clarification. The equipment can be selected and configured according to different material characteristics, processing capacities and separation requirements.
The successful application of GN’s 2 Phase Disc Separator in Southeast Asia demonstrates GN’s capability in providing high-speed centrifugal separation solutions for specialized liquid clarification applications. By combining suitable pretreatment with high-G clarification technology where required, GN continues to provide practical and efficient separation solutions for customers in the food, environmental, industrial and bio-based processing sectors.
